Markakis Having Fun or Being Reckless?

In his time in an Oriole uniform, Nick Markakis in light of his talent has been anything but a media hound. However, considering his meteoric rise in baseball and amongst Oriole fans, he may not be able to avoid the media anyone.

However, this morning, Markakis was profiled in the Baltimore Sun and it had nothing to do with baseball.

The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebeic has an article in today's paper and it's got nothing to do with what he does on the field, but off of it.

Let's just say it's anything but boring; in fact, some ! might find what Markakis does in his free time to be somewhat reckless.

Here's a portion of the article:

Markakis, who barely spoke in the clubhouse two years ago as a rookie, has started a new craze among his teammates with his purchase of Heelys, athletic shoes that have wheels on the bottom. The shoes are usually worn by children, but that matters little to Markakis, who sports them to and from the stadium and rolls around on them in the clubhouse and in the players' parking lot.

"We visited him [last week] and we were walking next to him and all of a sudden, he goes gliding by us on the sidewalk," said Dennis Markakis, Nick's father. "We didn't even know he was wearing them. He's like a little kid, always having a good time."

Loewen and Jeremy Guthrie have bought Heelys, and Burres says he wants to as well. On a recent off day, Markakis spent much of the afternoon rolling through a local mall. He also enjoys doing ! it at the grocery store but recently was scolded while he was ! wheeling in and out of aisles at a local Wal-Mart.

When told that such behavior might be perceived as unusual for a 24-year-old who happens to be a pretty well-known baseball player, Markakis said: "People look at me weird, but the biggest thing is, I'm really laid back and I really don't care what people think. If it's fun, I like to do it. The little things to me are the most fun, the things that people don't think of."

He's a brave man with his tricks; most contracts have stipulations about risky behavior in writing.

Well, he's being a little reckless and god forbid something happen to him; however, I find it refreshing that he's been able to preserve a lot his personality and not be so overwhelmed by fame, money, and his career.

It's good to see he's still acting like he's in his 20's rather than a grizzled veteran superstar who's too immersed with his own image.

I, for one, would like to see more stories like t! his. This piece has really humanized him.

O, Danny Boy, Redux

Daniel Cabrera.

The sound of his name either makes you wince, groan, or yell expletives. For years, we have been looking forward to him seeing the light and perhaps becoming a dominant majoe league pitcher; however, after a promising April and May, his whole season basically has gone to well — use your imagination.

We have been teased by potential — for example, his one-hit performance in New York at the end of 2006 — however, it's been business as usual, walks, hit batters, a lack of control, focus and near the top of league in statistics you don't want next to your name.

If you're Andy MacPhail, at this point, what do we do with Cabrera? I really, really hoped that he'd turn the corner this season and was looking forward to being overly positive, instead I'm ready to see if he someone else can take his spot. Maybe he should be non-tendered, or traded.

But…

The fear with getting rid of him is that some magical pitching ! coach will get Cabrera together and he'll be our worst nightmare; alas, he could just have a ten-cent head.

Loyal readers and bloggers, should Danny Boy have the honor of wearing an Oriole jersey, or do we send him on his way out…

The Yankees Get Sabathia

Well, it looks like the Evil Empire got their man. They backed up the Brinks truck for him, and the money was just too much to resist. It goes without saying, I really didn't want him in the AL East, but the Yankees really went after him hard and the fruits of their labor have paid off.
From CNNsi.com: Yankees general manager Brian Cashman left the winter meetings Tuesday and traveled to the San Francisco area to meet with CC S! abathia.

The New York Post reported on its Web site early Wednesday morning that Sabathia has agreed to sign with the Yankees. No other details were available.

New York made a six-year offer to Sabathia on Nov. 14 and met with him on Sunday and Monday. Cashman's daily briefing with reporters was canceled by the team Tuesday, with spokesman Jason Zillo saying, "Brian is off hotel property and unavailable for the rest of the evening."

Cashman's trip to California was disclosed by a baseball official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team didn't say where the GM had gone. Cashman traveled after being invited by Sabathia, the official said.
If I were him, I would have stayed in the National League; however, like I just noted -- the money offered was just too much to turn down -- and I guess I'm a little shocked that a deal was done so quickly.

Fox Sports Reports Garrett Olson Has Been Traded For Felix Pie..

Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal has reported that the Orioles have traded Garrett Olson for Felix Pie -- a player that Andy MacPhail has always coveted.

The Cubs have reached agreement with the Orioles on a deal that will send Pie to Baltimore for left-hander Garrett Olson and Class A right-hander Henry Williamson, according to major-league sources.

Pie, rated the Cubs' No. 1 prospect by Baseball America in 2007, has yet to prove he can hit in the majors, batting .223 with a .284 on-base percentage in 287 career plate appearances.

Olson, t! he 48th overall pick in the 2005 draft, could fit for the Cubs as a middle reliever if lefty Sean Marshall moves into the team's rotation.

The Padres wanted Olson as part of a three-team trade for Jake Peavy earlier this off-season, and could ask for him again from the Cubs if those talks revive.

Brian Roberts Extension Thoughts

Both Peter Schmuck and Roch Kubatko today made mention of the Brian Roberts extension negotiations, and both their posts really mirrored one another.

They got a both few words from Andy MacPhail earlier today, and this is what was said...

From Roch's Blog: Orioles president Andy MacPhail told me earlier today that "each side is moving closer to the other" in the Brian Roberts contract negotiations.

Asked if he's more optimistic now that he's been previously, MacPhail said, "I'd say so. We're not there yet, but we're moving toward each other, which is a good si! gn."

Roberts and his agent, Mark Pieper, have made it clear that they don't want to engage in talks once spring training ends.

Comrie & Camploi Traded to Ottawa

According to TSN:

The Islanders have acquired forward Dean McAmmond and a first-round draft selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from the Ottawa Senators, in exchange for forward Mike Comrie and defenseman Chris Campoli.

Update (4:51pm ET) According to Kukla's Korner -- The 1st rounde! r the Islanders received was acquired by Ottawa from San Jose, so it will be a very low pick in the 1st round.

Rangers (39-27-8) @ Atlanta (30-38-6)

Game is on MSG @ 7pm ET

Anything less than two points in Atlanta tonight will be a big disappointment. With eight games left on the schedule, this is by far the easiest opponent that the Rangers have left to play, after tonight the rest of their opponent! s are all teams from the Eastern Conference, currently heading for the playoffs.

On Tuesday night the Rangers had to deal with Marian Gaborik, who is an elite forward in the NHL. Tonight they face Ilya Kovalchuk, who is every bit as dangerous. Kovalchuk is closing in on another 40 goal season (38) and he also leads the team in points with 82. Kovalchuk is by far the Thrashers most dangerous weapon. But, if you remember the playoff series between the Rangers and Thrashers from two seasons ago, you'll remember little Avery/Kovalchuk battle where Kovalchuk completly lost his composure and went after Avery. Hopefully, knowing the Thrashers can't make the playoffs, Kovalchuk is once again more worried about Sean Avery than he is about scoring.

According to Ranger Rants, Markus Naslund who missed yesterday's practice (one can only assume that it was related to the big hit he was on the receiving end of by Gaborik the night before) will play tonight. Lines s! hould be the same as the ones that were on the ice on Tuesday ! against the Wild.

Update (12:45): I anticipated Lundqvist being back in goal tonight, he's 5-2-5 against Atlanta in his career with a 2.06 GAA and a .920 save percentage. But, Steve Valiquette will get the start, giving Hank the night off. [Link] In his last outing Valiquette played very well in a 3-0 defeat to the Hurricanes, unfortunately he didn't get much help from the rest of the team in that game. Given the opponent, Tortorella probably felt (as do I) that looking ahead at the rest of the schedule, this is the best game to give Lundqvist the night off.

Many tickets are still available for the Rangers remaining home games (plenty below face value) at TickCo, RazorGator, StubHub and TicketsNow.

In fact, StubHub.com already has Rangers home playoff games listed on their site. I've bought tickets in the past off of Stubhub prior to the regular season ending knowing that it's almost impossible to get tickets through the Rangers unless you are a season ticket holder and also that ticket prices usually are cheaper now, before the actual playoff matchups are determined and the games are sold out. If the games aren't played you can always get your money back.

Video of Sean Avery @ NHL Store

Sean Avery was at the NHL Store in New York this week to be interviewed by Ron Duguay and Ken Daneyko for their radio show Ice Breakers, which airs on XM & Sirius Radio.

I was looking on Youtube for a video of the interview and found this one that is posted below. Not the best quality and half the video has been cut up & edited by the person who produced it. I'm thankful that the guy made the video, but I really would've preferred if it was just raw footage because it isn't funny.

Anyways, here's the video (relevant part of the video is 1:32 - 3:30, the rest is a waste of time):

Rangers Sign RFA Corey Potter

This is another signing by the Rangers that was expected. But, Ranger fans eagerly await word that Brandon Dubinsky has been re-signed.
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Corey Potter.
Read the full press release [here]

Some reading from Blue Notes about the signing:
Potter will fight for a job in training camp on the third pair or as a seventh defenseman. No terms announced, but he earned $535,000 last season, and with a presumed 10 percent hike, that's $588,500.

The 6-foot-3 Potter, 25, recorded his first NHL point with an assist on Dec. 27, 2008 vs. New Jersey, and finished with two po! ints (one goal and one assist) in five games. In Hartford, he put up 10 goals and 22 assists for 32 points, along with 82 penalty minutes in 67 games.

Update (7/17):
Corey Potter's deal is for one year @ $550k according to Blue Notes

Rangers Open Season In Pittsburgh

When: Puck drops tonight @7:30pm
Where: Mellon Arena (or your living room)
TV: RDS, NHLN-CA, NHLN-US, MSG(HD)

This is the moment that Ranger fans have been waiting for since being bounced from the playoffs by the Capitals last season. What better way to start the new season off then to have to sit through a Stanley Cup banner raising ceremony in Pittsburgh and realize that it's been 15 years since your team won shit.

In all honesty though, once the puck drops, it's a brand new season and the eye should be on the prize. It's off to Pittsburgh for the first game of the season tonight (Friday) and then back to MSG tomorrow night (Saturday) for the home opener against Ottawa.

Expected Rangers Lines

Higgins - Dubinsky - Gaborik
Prospal - Drury - Kotalik
Lisin - Anisimov - Callahan
Brashear - Boyle - Voros

Staal - Girardi
Del Zotto - Rozsival
Gilroy - Redden

Lundqvist

Notes:
  • I asked Alexei Semenov's agent, Allan Walsh, what the status was of Semenov and whether he had a contract with the Rangers. Walsh said that it "Will be clear tomorrow". It was originally reported Wednesday evening that Semenov had signed a one year deal to play for the Ra! ngers. But, then reported by several media sources yesterday, ! there wa s a dispute between the two sides about something (rumored to be an offer from a KHL club) and the contract had only verbally been agreed to. Semenov is with the team in Pittsburgh as one of the seven defensemen on the roster.

    Update @ 11:40 AM

According to Steve Zipay's Twitter: "Semenov gone; Sather said players and agent agreed but Semenov's wife nixed deal."

  • Blue Notes with some interesting facts regarding Michael Del Zotto's NHL debut:
The last Rangers defenseman to play as a teenager was Brian Leetch, and he turned 20 just three days after his NHL debut in 1987-88.
Del Zotto, 19, will be the youngest defenseman to play for the Blueshirts since Dav! e Maloney (18 years, four months) and Dave was the youngest D in franchise history.
  • Former Ranger Blair Betts yesterday signed a one year, $550K contract with the Flyers. Betts had been with the Flyers on a tryout basis all preseason.

  • Colton Orr got in his first regular season fight as a member of Toronto under two minutes into the regular season. Dropping the mitts with none other than George Laraques. [Video]

Kualifikasi Piala Dunia 2009/2010 | Argentina Akhirnya Lolos

ArgentinaLolos

Sebelumnya posisi Argentina di kualifikasi zona Amerika Selatan cuk! up kritis.

Meski lolos, Argentina tampaknya bakal mendapatkan sejumlah c! atatan.

Sementara Uruguay sendiri bakal memperebutkan tiket ke Piala Dunia melalui jalur play-off.

Menit empat belas Argentina mendapatkan tendangan bebas.

Gawang Argentina selamat.

Menit 31, Veron kembali mengambil eksekusi tendangan bebas Argentina. Namun demikian, hasilnya masih sama seperti sebelumnya.

Hi! ngga akhir babak pertama skor 0-0 tetap bertahan.

B! abak ked ua berjalan memasuki menit 50.

Speedy Gonzalez Linked With Spurs

By Jaymes Payten-Marsh
For THBN

Argentine star winger, Kily Gonzalez, has been linked with a summer move to Tottenham.

Reports from Italy have confirmed that Spurs have contacted Gonzalez team, Inter, so as to get the pacey left winger out on loan for the 2005/2006 season.

Roberto Mancini, Inter's head coach, may rule out the possibility of Kily moving to Spurs as he needs cover on the left, especially if Emre leaves.

This story may be another ploy in getting a player a new contract, as is the case with many players l! inked with the London club.

The near future will tell.

Premier League Result - Liverpool 1-0 Spurs

The Facts about the Ramos Regime

Article by Jaymes Marsh

As you know, I am one of the THBN editors and I have been a huge Ramos fan since he took charge at Spurs.

My view on our well respected manager took a 360 degree nosedive when Claire (another THBN editor) produced the report (pictured below).

Herein lay the facts; Since taking charge, Ramos has presided over 34 Premier League games. From those 34 games, he has taken us to 10 victories, 11 draws, and 13 losses. If you tally the total po! ints, after 34 games, Tottenham Hotspur would be resting comfortably on 41 points. This clearly does not justify the alleged £5 million per year salary that Senor Ramos earns.

In business, we have a rule called ROI (Return on Investment). The rule is simple; if a product or service is not yielding a profitable ROI, you drop it. Simple as that!

It would be an understatement to say that Tottenham Hotspur boards have been trigger happy in the past as regards their managers. Therefore, it begs the question as to why this board is not following suit? Could it be the compensation required to oust the Spaniard? Taking into account that if the current predicament were to remain in place, and the unthinkable (but not impossible) were to happen, the financial implications surrounding relegation from the Premier League would be far more severe.

Timely action needs to be taken if results do not improve soon. If the club does not make any prog! ression from the following games against Stoke (away), and Bol! ton at h ome, it would be bad business sense in holding onto a liability such as Juande Ramos. I understand that business and football are comparable to chalk and cheese, but the facts speak openly for themselves.

Excuses Never Yield Results

The current excuses being thrown in the direction of the media are that Damien Comolli, Tottenham Hotspur's Sporting Director, failed to purchase a recognised striker(s) as cover for the departed Keane and Berbatov. Need I remind all of you that both Keane and Berbatov were part of the side that won 9 games from 19 outings after the Carling Cup win? I think my point on that subject has been sufficiently answered.

Both Ramos, Poyet, and some senior players at the club have lamented on the fact that the Tottenham players need time to gel, and that once they do, they will be firing on all cylinders. Once again, I would like the facts to speak for themselves. Ramos fielded a Spurs side th! at had 5 new players in it. By new, I am referring to players that were signed during the summer transfer window. If I am not mistaken, Hull won the game. And to add insult to injury, Phil Brown had 7 new players in his side, all 7 of which were signed in the summer transfer window.

Excuses never yield results. Whether excuses are volleyed within a business or footballing environment, all they are good for is papering over the cracks, or in the sublime case at Tottenham Hotspur, the very visible fault lines.

For all Tottenham Hotspur fans that rant and rave about continuity, please bear in mind that continuity is most definitely the key, if of course, the continuum is marshalled by a productive source. Clearly, our current manager is not. Basing his performances on results, Juande Ramos is not a productive source for Tottenham Hotspur.

If we do see a turn around in our next few fixtures, and by turn around, I mean a side playing with! vigour, vim, and a commanding ambition to want to play as a t! eam, I w ill be as happy as my fellow Spurs supporter. Juande Ramos on the other hand, still has to justify his salary, and above all else, his ability to manage Tottenham Hotspur.

Crouch End

The stories surrounding Peter Crouch and us have hit a low ebb as of late.

I'm no ITK, but I have a sneaky suspicion that Harry may be lining up a bid for the Portsmouth striker.

Is Crouch a better player than Bent or Pav? I'd say so. I'd take him above Carew and Bellamy any day of the week.

Price may be an issue though, but I'm sure Harry will get his way in the end.

My prediction is that we'll sign Crouch for around £10 million.

Kaka: Jangan Jual Pato

Fabiano Hanya Mau Ke Milan

Milan Hidupkan Kembali Negosiasi Fabiano

Senin, Milan Beli Fabregas?

Cissokho Bongkar Aib Milan

Gerrard contemplates management

But the Liverpool captain insists he will have to become 'crazy' to adapt to the rigours of life as a football boss.

Gerrard, who scored his third goal of the season in Saturday's 6-1 mauling of Hull City, has no intention of calling it quits at Anfield just yet, but the 29-year-old midfielder has confessed that he is fascinated by the work ethic of the top managers in the business.

The Reds skipper told The Daily Mail:"People ask me what I would like to do after football and I'd love to be a manager.

"But then I wonder if I could ever be as good as those guys because it is 24/7, it's their life, there is nothing else and I don't think I could be crazy like that

Fascination
"I like to switch off after games. I've got two daughters. I like to play golf. I think of Rafa and in five years I have never had a conversation with him that was not about football; Capello the same. They fascinate me, those people.

"When I ge! t talking to John Terry or Wayne Rooney, I am always asking about their managers, how they work, how they interact with the players. I'll pull Gary Lewin, the England physiotherapist, and ask him about Arsene Wenger at Arsenal."

Gerrard reckons team-mate Jamie Carragher has what it takes to become a top manager after the Liverpool vice-captain previously announced his desire to become the Reds boss in the future.

Gerrard added: "On Friday, I love getting home, sitting on the couch, turning Sky Sports News on and listening to all the interviews coming in from the training grounds, just to hear these characters talking about football.

"I don't know if I could be that obsessed. Jamie Carragher, now he could, definitely."

L'interista Zlatan Ibrahimovic ! è nono a quota 30.

Classifica finale
1.Cristiano Ronaldo (Portogallo, Manchester Utd), 446 punti

Inter (4-3-1-2): Julio Cesar; Maicon, Cordoba, Chivu, Santon; Zanetti, Cambiasso, Muntari; Stankovic; Ibrahimovic, Adriano. In panchina: Toldo, Rivas, Maxwell, Figo, Burdisso, Cruz, Balotelli. Allenatore: Mourinho.
Manchester United (4-5-1): Van der Sar; Fletcher, Ferdinand, O'Shea, Evra; Ronaldo, Scholes, Carrick, Park, Rooney; Berbatov. In panchina: Kuszczak, Fabio, Gibson, Nani, Wellbeck, Giggs, Tevez.
Arbitro Medina Cantalejo (Esp).

Qualche volta potrebbe venire a vedermi giocare a calcio?

Nonostante tutto vittoria meritata... CINICO

Abbiati: 6

Liverpool come from behind twice to win at Reebok

Steven Gerrard responded perfectly to having his early season form questioned by boss Rafael Benitez when he belted Liverpool's winner in a 3-2 victory over Bolton at the Reebok.

But the visitors were made to fight desperately hard by a Bolton side who were down to 10 men for much of the second period. In fact, Gary Megson's men had been ahead twice through Kevin Davies and Tamir Cohen, and Liverpool only really got on top when Sean Davis was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Glen Johnson had fired one equaliser in the first half, before Fernando Torres pulled Liverpool level at 2-2 a couple of minutes after Davis angrily trudged off. Then Gerrard struck with a fierce drive seven minutes from the end to lift at least some of the pressure from Benitez.
Bolton made one change from the side that won at Tranmere in the Carling Cup in midweek, with Tamir Cohen replacing Mark Davies. Liverpool, who lost disastrously at home to Aston Villa on Monday, gave new Greek signing Sotirios Kyrgiakos his his debut in place of Martin Skrtel, while Spanish winger Albert Riera replaced Yossi Benayoun on the left-flank.
Riera soon knew he was in a game. He was clattered by a strong Sam Ricketts tackle and then collected the Welsh international's boot in his ribs minutes later.
Predictably Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba was once again detailed to man-mark Gerrard, just as he did in both matches between the sides last season.
Liverpool soon h! ad chances. Riera's cross was missed 12 yards out by Lucas, an! d the ba ll was returned into the box by Johnson for Fernando Torres to see a glancing header skim wide. Torres was next in the wars, cut down by Gary Cahill, with the defender one of three Bolton first-half bookings, the others being Davis and Muamba.
The visitors had plenty of possession, but without making many clear-cut chances, Matt Taylor and Cohen working tirelessly in midfield, breaking up Liverpool's flow. One through-ball from Lucas saw Torres shake off Cahill and attempt to chip Jussi Jaaskelainen from just inside the box, but the goalkeeper pulled down the effort.
At the other end, a Taylor free-kick was headed away for a corner by Torres, and that gave Bolton their breakthrough. Taylor's 32nd-minute corner curled to the far post where Johan Elmander headed it down into the six-yard box for Davies to turn past Jose Reina from a couple of yards.
Liverpool surged back looking for an equaliser, and it almost came when Torres chested down Johnson's cross - but ! he fired across goal and wide of the far post. But the visitors were level in the 42nd minute when a corner was cleared only as far as Johnson just outside the box, and he fired a low show inside Jaaskelainen's near post.
Bolton caught Liverpool asleep at the beginning of the second period. Liverpool's failure to clear a right-wing cross saw them go behind again just two minutes after the break. Davies was able to flick the ball across the box, where two defenders failed to stop Cohen lashing the ball home from eight-yards.
Bolton were reduced to 10 men after 54 minutes. Lucas was racing towards the Bolton box when Davis clipped his heels from behind. Referee Alan Wiley produced a second yellow and then the red card. Davis was furious. He had confronted the Brazilian before receiving his marching orders and ran towards Lucas again, before being halted by a colleague and ushered away.
It was the incentive Liverpool needed. Gerrard hit the bar before Torres too! k a chest-down from Dirk Kuyt before steering the equaliser pa! st Jaask elainen in the 56th minute.
Next into the book was Gerrard for a foul on Muamba, before Benayoun replaced Riera after 63 minutes. Not surprisingly, it was all Liverpool now. Andriy Voronin was sent on after 74 minutes to replace Javier Mascherano as the pressure on Bolton increased.
Torres and Kyrgiakos both had chances, and Bolton sent on another defender in Gretar Steinsson for Cohen with 12 minutes left.
Liverpool's pressure paid off with seven minutes left when Gerrard crashed the ball home from 12 yards. Benayoun's corner had been headed down by Torres for the Liverpool skipper to finally put his side ahead - and it proved decisive.

Silva leaves exit door open

Reports have resurfaced recently suggesting Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to renew his interest in the Valencia winger in January.

The Spanish international was expected to depart the Mestalla in the summer, along with team-mate David Villa, as Valencia looked to ease their precarious financial position.

However both players remained with the La Liga side despite the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid also being said to be interested.

Ferguson was also linked with an offer for Silva as late as last week but again a deal failed to materialise.

The 23-year-old has reiterated his happiness at Valencia but did leave the door open to a future move, further fuelling rumours of a January move to Old Trafford.

"It is true that there was a bid from a big English club," he told The News of the World.

"If it was only a question of money then I would have accepted the move.

"Things can ch! ange in the future but right now I am happy in Valencia and I did not have sufficient motive to leave."

Advocaat sacked as Zenit manager

Dick Advocaat
Advocaat was at Zenit for three years

Russian club Zenit St Petersburg have sacked coach Dick Advocaat following a run of disappointing results.

Zenit suggested that the 61-year-old's decision to become Belgium coach at the end of the season may have contributed to the ! side's recent poor run of form.

"The club's leadership and board of directors have decided to dismiss Dick Advocaat," read a statement.

Advocaat took over in 2006 and led Zenit to Uefa Cup glory in 2008 with a 2-0 win over his former club Rangers.

The Zenit statement continued: "Dick Advocaat has done a lot for the team and his name will forever be associated with the success Zenit has achieved over the past few seasons.

"Under his leadership, many new glorious pages in Zenit's history have been written and fans will never forget the title-winning season of 2007 and the team's magnificent performance in Europe in 2008.

"Unfortunately, after deciding to! take on the role of national coach of the Belgian national team, Zenit's performances have deteriorated notably and neither the fans nor the club's leadership are satisfied with the league position the club finds itself in."

Zenit made the decision to dismiss the former Netherlands coach after a 2-0 home defeat by lowly Tom Tomsk. It was Zenit's fourth league game without a win and has resulted in the club dropping to seventh in the table.

Last week, Advocaat criticised the club's new sporting director, former Russia international Igor Korneev, for his role in the signing of midfielder Alessandro Rosina from Torino.

The Dutchman said he "no longer wanted to work with Korneev" after he was not consulted over the signing of the Italian.

In the past year, Advocaat had also lost key players such as Andrey Arshavin, Anatoly Tymoschuk and Pavel P! ogrebniak and was reported to be frustrated that adequate replacements had not been found.

Youth team manager Anatoly Davydov will take temporary charge of the first team.
